5 Shakespeare

Friday 4th July

The Time Walk was an excellent event where the children could hear and read about music throughout time. So many of the songs they knew and would either dance or sing-a-long to. Our class focus was the 70s and the children thoroughly got involved in the events, fashion and music of that era, showing their enthusiasm through dressing up, researching events and creating a music playlist. A fantastic fun day.

Friday 27th June

Over the last few weeks, we have been preparing for Create day on 8th July. We are exploring the Rights of the Child through learning the song ‘The Hope’ along with the National Royal Opera and Ballet. We have already had two previous sessions of dance, exploring the right to play and the right to their own identity. We then explored the use of props and how these can inform our performance.  This week we began to learn the song ‘The Hope’ by Ayanna Witter-Johnson, learning the first verse and chorus, and adding actions to convey meaning.

Friday 13th June

The children had a fantastic trip this week to West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village. They had the chance to explore reconstructions of buildings, handle replica objects and study archaeological findings from the site to consolidate their understanding further on what life would have been like as an Anglo-Saxon.

Friday 6th June

This week in Maths, the children have been studying symmetry. They began by identifying the differences between a mirror image and its original form. They then recalled what symmetry was and began to look at vertical, horizontal and diagonal reflections. They even began to draw a mirror image of a half-drawn shape to create some beautiful artwork as you can see below.

Friday 23rd May

This week, the class took part in a Road Safety Session run by Essex Highways. The children took part in discussions surrounding how to be safe when walking and how to cross the road safely, followed by practical roadside training. We also created posters to promote road safety and a rap which the children are very proud of.

In our Maths lesson on Wednesday, we were learning how to read and plot coordinates. We highlighted the importance of reading the x-axis first before the y-axis so that we write down the coordinates correctly. To consolidate our knowledge and understanding, we played the classic game of battleships to practise plotting coordinates accurately in order to sink our opponents' ships. The children had lots of fun and were very competitive!

Friday 9th May

During Science, we have been learning about the life cycle of a plant and each stage of the reproductive process. We dissected different flowers to observe their parts in detail using a magnifying glass and compared the equivalent parts in the flowers. It was really fascinating to see the similarities and differences!

Friday 2nd May

This term in Art we are studying landscapes. We looked into the work of Alfred Heaton-Cooper in the first week, studying the techniques he used. This week we produced perspective in our art, considering the use of a vanishing point – the point at which two lines appear to merge together.  This is as far as the eye can see clearly, therefore creating the idea of distance. The children followed the instructions beautifully and the results were fantastic.
