Music
Music is a strong feature of our curriculum and is experienced explicitly through the music lessons delivered to all children, and also through the opportunities for performance and extra-curricular activities throughout their time at school. We use an online platform, CHARANGA, to teach all composition, listening and singing. All classes take part in weekly singing assemblies and music also plays a big part in the opportunities all children have for performance throughout the school - a Christmas performance in EYFS, a Year 1 Christmas singsong, the Year 2 Christmas play, the Spring term Year 4 performance and the Summer term Year 6 performance. In addition to this, every class holds an assembly throughout the year with music often a key feature of these.
We have an enthusiastic Key Stage Two School Choir who have taken part in competitions, local events and have also sung for school events and regularly perform in assemblies. They have also take part in carol singing and events with other schools.
Our Year 3 children spend a term learning the Ukelele with a tutor from Essex Music Services. Their lessons culminate in a performance to pupils at a local school.
Our school is proud to be a Rock Steady School. Parents can purchase weekly tuition from a Rock Steady tutor which allows their child a spot in a band. Children play either the guitar, keyboard, drums or take on vocals. Some lessons are fully funded by the school. Other peripatetic lessons offered are guitar and keyboard. Every year we hold a Summer Music Concert where all children learning an instrument, as well as our Choristers, have an opportunity to perform to their parents and carers and the rest of the school.
