6 Rowling
Friday 6th June
The children have made a great start back to their final half-term at Stanway Primary! This week, we have been busy writing a narrative based on a short film clip about WW2 - Beyond the Lines. We have been focusing on the use of emotive vocabulary, figurative language and passive voice, as well as including a range of challenging punctuation to enhance effect. We have been so impressed with the writing so far, and many of the stories have brought a tear to our eyes!
We have also been practising some sporting events, in preparation for Sports Day.
Friday 23rd May
This week, we have been busy completing our Theme Park projects. The children considered a range of marketing strategies, then carefully selected the correct medium to promote their park whilst staying within their budget. After designing their billboards and writing their radio, TV or internet advertisements, they had to calculate their final annual profits and consider how they were going to re-invest in their park. I have been really impressed with the quality of their work; many children went above and beyond their remit to create tickets and merchandise! In English, we have focused on writing a formal letter of complaint to the manager of an imaginary theme park.
Friday 16th May
The children have completed their SATs papers this week; we are so very proud of the effort, determination and resilience that each and every child has shown. They enjoyed a well-deserved extended break outside at the end of the final paper. 6 Rowling have also been busy collaborating on a Theme Park Project - they were given an overall 'budget' to design their park, and had to think carefully about the types of rides and amenities that they needed. Once they had completed their designs, the children worked on a persuasive brochure and then calculated the running costs in order to determine the entrance fees they needed in order to make a profit. We have also been creating dragon-eye art in oil pastels, as well as finishing artwork inspired by Bridget Riley - the results, so far, look stunning!
Friday 9th May
This week, we have been very busy getting ready for SATs; in particular, the children have created their own revision guides to support their learning and understanding. We have also continued with our Op-Art work, focusing on images which look as though they curve outwards from the page. In English, the children have been writing a narrative to accompany the music video, Titanium. The results have been absolutely amazing, with wonderful examples of ambitious vocabulary, figurative language and challenging punctuation. The class have also enjoyed honing their catching, batting and throwing skills in P.E., where they have been learning to play cricket.
Friday 2nd May
This week, the children in Year 6 have been completing their practice SATs papers; we are extremely proud of all of their hard work and effort. In Art, we started our unit on optical illusions, based upon the work of the artist, Bridget Riley - the children's drawings were particularly eye-catching! In English, the children completed their formal persuasive letters to a Member of Parliament, regarding their concerns about climate change. We then started a new writing unit - a narrative based on the music video for Titanium by David Guetta.
