3 Wilson
Friday 6th June
This week, 3 Wilson have begun their new maths topic, which is capacity. We have been learning the difference between volume and capacity and practising how to read measuring beakers in millilitres and litres. On Wednesday, we went outside in the sunshine. Our task was to fill the beakers and containers with different amounts of water.
In PE, we have been practising our skills ready for sports day! We tested how far we could throw a tennis ball using our over arm throw, practised some sprints in teams and tested our long jump.
Friday 23rd May
This week, 3 Wilson have been exploring the concept of mass in maths. The children have been learning how to compare the weight of different objects such as cubes using balancing scales. They have also been learning how to read scales in various increments, comparing mass and finding the total mass of multiple objects.
In Topic, we have been building on our knowledge of the Mayans. This week, we explored where cacao comes from along with the importance of cacao in the Mayan civilisation. We also learnt about its various uses. Using what we learnt, we created our own posters about 'Xococatl'.
Friday 16th May
Since coming back from the Easter holidays, 3 Wilson have been practising their cricket skills during their PE lessons. They have been displaying excellent teamwork skills, learning how to bowl and improving their fielding skills including stopping and catching techniques.
Meanwhile, in Science, 3 Wilson have been continuing their topic on light and this week our focus has been exploring shadows. We have been learning how they are formed and which factors affect their size and position. We had great fun creating our own shadow puppets which we tested out using torches in the classroom. Then, we went outside to explore our shadows in the sunlight. Below are some photos of our shadow puppets and our cricket skills!
Friday 7th May
3 Wilson have been excellent mathematicians this week, working hard to practice some key maths skills. These included using number lines for addition and subtraction and revisiting division methods. The children worked with their partners to count out the correct number of cubes and counters and sort these into groups to help calculate the answer! Here we are practising grouping to work out a set of division sums.
Friday 2nd May
This week, 3 Wilson began learning about light and shadow, our new science topic. We walked around the school exploring different light sources.
In History this week, we trekked through the rainforests in Central America and used our drama techniques, taking on the role of an explorer discovering Mayan temples. We then generated a series of questions based upon our discovery which we will be answering in the following weeks.
