1 Blake
Friday 6th June
This week has been a short but jam-packed week, full of hands-on learning for Blake class. We have been looking for answers to questions in Science. This week the question was 'Do taller trees have wider trunks?' We investigated by measuring the trees in school and our answer was definitely yes! In Maths, we have been looking at numbers up to 100 and comparing them with greater than, less than and equal to, and in English we have been working on our grammar and using suffixes and prefixes.
Friday 23rd May
This week we have been working hard on our class assembly, improving our performing skills and our confidence. We have also been for a walk to Grymes Dyke, where we used our science knowledge to identify tree species and wild flowers. The children were surprised at how many different trees they found! We have also spent this week working on writing similes in preparation for writing poems about springtime.
Friday 16th May
This week we have been working hard on our skills in PE. We have been working with the coaches from SCS to develop our cricket skills, throwing and hitting the ball and running between the stumps. When we haven't been doing cricket, we have been practising our throwing skills with Mrs Banes and Miss King. We learnt how to position ourselves so that we could throw as far as possible and some of us were very surprised at how much further we could throw!
Friday 9th May
This week we have been watching our beans closely, discovering what happens to the ones with and without water. We have started reading a new story in English and spent time sequencing the story so that we can rewrite it next week. In Maths, we have practised our counting in jumps of 2, 5 and 10 as we start to count in groups before learning to multiply. We have also spent time making close observations and drawings of plants in our Art lessons. We have learnt how Botanical Artists use a combination of science and drawing skills to carefully draw and annotate images of plants for others to learn from.
Friday 2nd May
This week we have been planting seeds in our class. We have written instructions to guide others using imperative (bossy) verbs and time conjunctions. We have watched the growth of our bean seeds and can see them already sprouting roots! The children showed their knowledge of plants by searching for plants around the school grounds and sorting them as garden or wild flowers. We have also been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to speed up our counting and are practising every day.
