4 Jackson

Friday 6th June

What a wonderful first week back! We have started looking at persuasive adverts and the children have created their own products worthy of the immortal gods in our class reader, ‘Who Let the Gods Out’. They have really got the hang of rhetorical questions and make the reader feel like they are missing out. In Maths, we have been finishing our learning on time and look forward to our next topic next week. In Science, we explored the relationship between the shape and type of teeth in animal skulls and whether the animal is a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. In History, we compared the ancient Athenian and Spartan schools and explored what life was like for children in ancient Greece.

Friday 23rd May

What a wonderful week of learning! We had cricket with our coach on Monday and Friday afternoon which was a lovely way to spend our last week before half-term. We learnt so much and everyone had such fun during the sessions. The children have also really enjoyed our class reader and love the comedic parts. We have completed our care guides on how to look after a Cerberus, which is a creature from ancient Greek mythology. The children came up with lots of creative ideas for feeding, housing and looking after the health of the beast. We also revisited how to draw self-portraits in preparation for our end-of-year reports. The children's drawing and sketching skills have really come along this year!

Friday 16th May

This week we completed watercolour paintings for VE Day, which we started last week. In English, we have started reading ‘Who Let the Gods Out’, which links with our topic of Ancient Greece. The children were very engaged and loved the funny, adventurous plot. We have read aloud as a class and will be using the book to inspire some writing. In Science, we learnt about the different types of teeth and came up with actions to help us remember them.

Friday 9th May

The children have all been very engaged in the topic of Ancient Greece and developed their understanding of chronology as they placed key events of the period onto a timeline.  We also began looking at the significance of Alexander the Great.  The children progressed from dividing two-digit numbers to dividing 3-digit numbers with great success, and we completed our unit on money. In Art, we began learning about the origins of Greek pottery and what the functions of different designs were. We look forward to writing the end of our own myths so we can edit our draft and write our best version in our Big Write books. 4 Jackson continues to enjoy their cricket sessions and their catching and batting skills are showing much improvement.

Friday 2nd May

This week the children have loved our Greek myths topic in English. They learnt the story of Perseus and Medusa, created their own mythical beasts as a group and then designed their individual creatures ready to plan their own myths. In Maths, we have been dividing 2-digit numbers, estimating with money and solving problems with money. The children found dividing a little bit tricky but persevered and really did themselves proud. We started our new topic of digestion in Science and the class were very excited learning about how clever the human body is! We have also been developing our cricket skills.
