3 Wilson
Friday 4th July
3 Wilson had a fun-filled day at the end of last week for our 'Time Walk'. Our theme was the '90s' and the children spent the day exploring the time period. We listened to some '90s' hits and learnt some facts from the 90s, including famous buildings, toys and technology.
The children had a fantastic time walking round the school, stopping at each decade to have a dance and listen to some music from that time period. Thank you for joining in with the fun at the end of the day and collecting your stamps at each station! Here are some photos which feature some great 90s themed costumes and a lot of Spice Girls!
Friday 27th June
In Science, 3 Wilson have been continuing their topic of light and shadow. We have explored how shadows are formed, why they change and what they can tell us about the movement of the sun. To explore this topic, we took 3 Wilson outside for a fun , hands-on experiment.
Throughout the day, we went outside at various times and the children worked in pairs to draw around each other's shadows on the playground using chalk. We noticed that they grew shorter or longer at various points of the day. We then measured our shadows to compare these changes.
Friday 20th June
This week has been 'Sports Week' and 3 Wilson have enjoyed being active, practising for sports day, completing the daily mile and doing a range of sports and activities! Despite the warm weather, the children have done an amazing job putting in their best efforts to show off their sports skills. In preparation for Sports Day we have been practising a range of different activities such as egg and spoon, hurdles, sprints and through the hoops!
Across the week we have been learning about a famous Mayan sport 'Pok-a-tok'. 3 Wilson were able to put their Pok-a-tok skills to the test this week using balloons and were not able to use their hands or feet to move it through a hoop to score! After learning all about the game they created their own non-chronological reports.
Friday 13th June
During Art this week, 3 Wilson created some beautiful, detailed watercoloured paintings. We drew inspiration from our topic 'Chocolate' and sketched our own cacao beans. We thought carefully about the different shapes we had to sketch and then used some shading techniques. Finally, we used water colours to paint our sketches using our blending and feathering techniques. We set up an art gallery with 3 Morpurgo and were able to view each other's art. Below are some of our pieces.
Continuing with our 'Chocolate' topic, we have been studying the poem 'Chocolate Cake' by Michael Rosen in English. 3 Wilson had a fun time planning their route around the school to retrieve a Chocolate Cake undetected by others! We thought carefully about our silent, sneaky movements and which verbs and adverbs we could use to describe these.
Friday 6th June
This week, 3 Wilson have begun their new Maths topic, which is capacity. We have been learning the difference between volume and capacity and practising how to read measuring beakers in millilitres and litres. On Wednesday, we went outside in the sunshine. Our task was to fill the beakers and containers with different amounts of water.
In PE, we have been practising our skills ready for sports day! We tested how far we could throw a tennis ball using our over arm throw, practised some sprints in teams and tested our long jump.
Friday 23rd May
This week, 3 Wilson have been exploring the concept of mass in maths. The children have been learning how to compare the weight of different objects such as cubes using balancing scales. They have also been learning how to read scales in various increments, comparing mass and finding the total mass of multiple objects.
In Topic, we have been building on our knowledge of the Mayans. This week, we explored where cacao comes from along with the importance of cacao in the Mayan civilisation. We also learnt about its various uses. Using what we learnt, we created our own posters about 'Xococatl'.
Friday 16th May
Since coming back from the Easter holidays, 3 Wilson have been practising their cricket skills during their PE lessons. They have been displaying excellent teamwork skills, learning how to bowl and improving their fielding skills including stopping and catching techniques.
Meanwhile, in Science, 3 Wilson have been continuing their topic on light and this week our focus has been exploring shadows. We have been learning how they are formed and which factors affect their size and position. We had great fun creating our own shadow puppets which we tested out using torches in the classroom. Then, we went outside to explore our shadows in the sunlight. Below are some photos of our shadow puppets and our cricket skills!
Friday 7th May
3 Wilson have been excellent mathematicians this week, working hard to practice some key maths skills. These included using number lines for addition and subtraction and revisiting division methods. The children worked with their partners to count out the correct number of cubes and counters and sort these into groups to help calculate the answer! Here we are practising grouping to work out a set of division sums.
Friday 2nd May
This week, 3 Wilson began learning about light and shadow, our new science topic. We walked around the school exploring different light sources.
In History this week, we trekked through the rainforests in Central America and used our drama techniques, taking on the role of an explorer discovering Mayan temples. We then generated a series of questions based upon our discovery which we will be answering in the following weeks.
