Welcome to Class 4/5W

Welcome to the 4/5W page! We are very lucky to have Mrs Rout and Miss Peters working alongside our class teacher, Mrs Watkins.

We started this year with a fantastic Greek day which enthused and engaged the children about our history topic for this half term. We are now enjoying our new topic on Innovative Inventors. We have learnt about the Wright Brothers’ plane as well as writing brilliant biographies of Alexander Graham Bell.

In 4/5W, English and Maths are taught daily. This half term, we have linked our reading and writing to our Inventors topic and also to our Science learning. Maths has been focussed upon multiplication and division facts.

Within these subjects, learning walls play a vital role in helping the children work independently.

Our Science focus for this half term has been sound, which has also helped children to understand what they have learnt about the invention of the first telephone. Wherever possible, children are provided with an opportunity to apply their scientific knowledge to investigations.

As a whole school we are prompting a love of reading and developing the children as readers for enjoyment. In our class we are promote this through daily SQUIRT and class books. So far this half term, we have enjoyed reading Fantastic Mr Fox, The Iron Man and I Don’t Like Poetry! Our current class book is Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman.
