Gif Animations

With the aid of a Fujifilm digital camera, a tripod, a black backdrop and a Gif Animator we have attempted our first animations.  We  found  that  it  was  quite  difficult  to  keep everything exactly the same for each photograph.  Any slight changes spoilt the continuity in the animation.  We also found that it was better to fill the viewfinder with the image,  rather  than  trying  to crop  the  photos, as  it is very difficult to crop them in exactly the same place each time.  The results were also better with pictures taken out of doors as the lighting seemed to be more constant than with pictures taken with a flash.

Our animations are based on between seven and ten frames each.  The individual frames were imported into the animator, sequenced and then set to loop round at a set number of frames per second depending on the action taking place.  In some cases we used one set of pictures to show the action in one direction, then copies of the same frames sequenced in reverse to return the animation to its original position.  This ensured a smoother transition from the end of one loop to the beginning of the next.
A trial version of the Gif Animator can be downloaded from www.webutilities.com.

Here are our results!
They may take some time
to download, but we think
it is worth it.
