Walton-on-the-Naze

In June Year 5 and 6 visited Walton-on-the-Naze to study the effects of erosion.

Two coaches dropped pupils, teachers and helpers at the top end of Walton. We then walked along the green and down the cliff path to reach the beach.

There were signs of erosion along the way, with some old cliff paths coming to an abrupt halt where they disappeared to nothing at the cliff edge.

Once on the beach we hunted for fossils as well as looking at the cliff face. The best find was a large shark's tooth. These fossils were imbedded in the cliffs at one time, but have been released as the cliff has eroded.

We walked along the beach to the town end of Walton. Signs of erosion included exposed tree roots on the cliff edges and finding house bricks and flat pieces of concrete, maybe once paths, along the beach.
