Our History Project

During the summer term of 2002 Stanway Primary was invited to work with the Open University and two other schools to produce a multi-media website on World War II. The finished site was to be used as an educational resource for Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils. Each school was given their own topic, ours being Women at Work during WWII.

We advertised in the local press and on local radio for volunteers to come into school to be interviewed by teams of children. The interviews were recorded on video and some of the footage edited and made into short movie clips for inclusion on the website. Our volunteers, all women who had worked during the war, seemed to enjoy sharing their experiences with the children who were spellbound by the tales they had to tell. History really came to life as the children heard first hand what it was like to live and work through the war.
