Reception

Friday 27th June

We’ve had another busy week in Hendra and Rosen Class! This week included an exciting visit to St Lawrence School in Rowhedge, where the children took part in a multi-sports event. Activities included frisbee, relay races, shot put, and many other fun challenges.

Back in school, the children have continued to enjoy learning through play, where they have demonstrated great teamwork, problem-solving, and negotiation skills. These skills have been developed through a range of fun activities such as sensory shaving foam play, puzzles, and construction building challenges.

Friday 20th June

This week, Early Years enjoyed Sports Week and all the exciting activities linked to it. We kicked off the week with some yoga and race practice ahead of Sports Day. Then on Wednesday, we all had a fantastic time taking part in Sports Day itself, which began with a carousel of activities in the morning and finished with track races in the afternoon.

Throughout the week, the children took part in a wide range of PE and sports sessions. They also had great fun learning about a range of inspirational sports stars and performing their class assemblies. During busy time, the children have completed a range of sport-themed activities, including creating Sports Day invitations, designing their own medals, and playing “I Spy” sports.

Friday 13th June

This week, we enjoyed reading Somebody Swallowed Stanley, which helped us think about the importance of keeping our oceans clean and safe for sea animals. Inspired by the story, we created posters to teach others about lo

oking after our oceans and making sure they are free from rubbish. We also had lots of fun creating our own under-the-sea artwork as part of our creative writing and art activities. In maths, we explored repeating patterns and used a variety of shapes to create our own colourful and imaginative patterns. Outdoors, we continued to enjoy our sensory play, especially using the sand and water trays to explore and enhance our learning through play.

Friday 6th June

This week in Reception, we started the new half-term by learning about being healthy and discovering how fruit and vegetables help us stay strong and well. We began the week by exploring a variety of fruits and vegetables and had lots of fun using magnifying glasses to look closely at what they look like inside. It was fascinating to see all the different colours, textures, and patterns! We also got creative by making our own fruit baskets and painting still-life pictures of fruit. In computing, we had lots of fun using the BeeBots. We enjoyed programming them and watching them move around the map as we gave them directions. It’s been a busy and exciting start to the half-term!

Friday 23rd May

This week in Rosen and Hendra class, we enjoyed exploring the book 'What the Ladybird Heard.' We have created many pieces of artwork and also enjoyed working as a team. We demonstrated great teamwork, imagination, and fine motor skills to create “rose perfume” in the mud kitchen using rose petals, water, and tweezers. We also developed our teamwork skills through a maths activity, where we worked together to order and match the ladybirds in numerical order—taking time to turn them over and check them all very carefully. During PE, we continued to work as a team by completing relay races as part of our preparation for Sports Day. A week of great teamwork from everyone in Hendra and Rosen. Super work!

Friday 16th May

Rosen and Hendra have had a wonderfully creative week, exploring a variety of media and techniques to produce beautiful artwork and models. Their creations have all been inspired by our "Outdoor Adventure" topic, with a special focus on minibeasts.

In addition to their artistic activities, the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring our outdoor area—cooking up imaginary treats in the mud kitchen, hunting for minibeasts, and riding the bikes.

Friday 9th May

This week, Rosen and Hendra Class had a fantastic visit to Hasty’s Farm. The children took part in a butterfly trail where they learnt all about the butterfly life cycle, as well as lots of fun facts — including that butterflies taste with their feet!

Then everyone enjoyed a tasty fruit kebab while listening to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children loved meeting and feeding all the farm animals, including pigs, goats, alpacas, and even a four-day-old chick.

It was an amazing day of learning, which has been continued back at school by creating artwork all about the butterfly life cycle.

Friday 2nd May

The children in Hendra and Rosen class have been enjoying the story of Superworm during Drawing Club. They've impressed us with their imaginative writing and creativity, especially when designing new basecamps for Superworm.

In the outside area this week, the children had great fun in the small world area which they transformed into a lively construction site—using diggers to move equipment and bring their ideas to life.

Water play was another highlight of the week, where the children used brilliant mathematical language to describe and compare the amounts of water in different containers.
